Much of the inspiration for my artwork comes from medical science. I am
influenced by the visual aspects, such as microscopic, diagnostic, and
molecular images, as well as descriptions of biological processes, such
as bone remodelling, which I found particularly fascinating to read
about. I often take such images and increase them to an even greater
scale. Although my work is based on extensive research, it evolves quite
spontaneously and derives from my own life experiences.<br />
<br />
At any
time, I am working on a number of different projects, and I enjoy using a
variety of media, including ceramics, paper, wire, and textiles. This
broad interest allows me to transfer the skills required for one medium
to another. By experimenting in this way, I often stumble upon new
ideas. I am constantly updating my skills and am presently studying
jewellery making, in which I am learning many new techniques which are
transferable to other media.<br />

been exclusively working on her own fine art.</span></div>

Paul Irvine is Wirral born, and has lived in Hoylake for twenty
five years. He is a full time teacher of Design & Technology, and
has always enjoyed the challenge of designing and making his own
‘stuff’.</div>

He trained at Shoreditch College in the 1970s, and has returned
to working in silver relatively recently, although he is equally happy
working in both wood and engineering materials which proves to be
useful, as it enables him to make the tools and formers that he needs to
work silver. Perhaps because silversmithing is first and foremost a
hobby, Paul’s pieces are somewhat eclectic, ranging from pieces of
jewellery to candelabra to napkin rings.</div>

His preferred method of working is to beat and hammer silver into
shape, where the material’s malleability (‘smackability’ as one of his
pupils memorably expressed it), enables the silver to be wrought into
shape. For some pieces silver sheet is ‘pressed’ into shape using
handmade wooden formers and the pressure of a vice – this is
particularly so on some of the bangles, where the curvature is
anticlastic (it curves in opposite directions); this form is
particularly strong along its length, and can be seen in natural
structures such as leaves and grasses. He also fabricates pieces,
joining them together with heat and solder.</div>

Design sources are picked up all over the place: from natural
forms, from geometric shapes, from the inspiration of the work of other
artists and craftspeople, and from simply thumping the silver to see
where it will go. Sketching sometimes forms the basis of ideas, although
more often than not three dimensional modelling is the preferred method
of development. For each finished piece of silver there are usually at
least a couple of rough hewn pieces of copper or gilding metal
languishing in the corner of his workshop.</div>

Paul is registered with the Assay office at Goldsmith’s Hall in
London, and all his work is assayed and hallmarked by them to guarantee
the quality of the silver. The majority of his work is produced in
Sterling silver, which can be seen by the 925 mark within the Assay
marks.</div>

Paul would probably like to describe his silver work along the
lines of ‘The product of many hard won years of experience, finely tuned
and realised in individual pieces in his studio workshop in Hoylake’

Whether it be capturing the interaction of light on the land, recording
the architectural landscapes of urban life or highlighting the intricate
details of a flower or plant, she enjoys the challenge of new and

Land and seascape photography remain her particular love however,
and form the subjects of most of her photographic images. She is
inspired by the rich colours of dawn and dusk when natural light is at

Dennis Spicer </h1>
Dennis attended the Byam Shaw School of Painting in London from
1979
to 1983. Since then he has supported himself as a teacher and by selling
his art. In 2000, he moved to the Merseyside with his family where he
continues to teach and paint. The majority of his work are of still

transitory, or perhaps that the objects within a painting are somehow
carrying on a dialogue with each other, but whatever it is, I find the
subject endlessly stimulating and fascinating. The painting of the
varying textures and the way that the
surfaces reflect light constantly challenge the artist and the spaces
between the objects become just as important as the objects themselves.
In the tradition of "nature morte" I am attracted to paint
things that are cast off and have no importance. I find objects in
charity shops or sometimes in the detritus of the street or on the sea
shore. I am trying, through painting them with the same attention and
scrutiny as more precious objects, to reclaim them from being simply
overlooked. Life drawing and painting are also important to me as a
change
from the static nature of the still lives to the more spontaneous
capturing of a momentary gesture. In addition I have lately been doing
landscapes of the country side around West Kirby and portraits."<br />

Dennis has had two one man shows in London and regularly exhibits at
the New English Art Club and Royal Institute of Oil Painters
exhibitions, as well as shows in the North West. He has paintings in

out to do is shared by both art AND science. 'Kaloseisdos' is a
window onto that world. To achieve the 'concept' of a kind beauty,

celebrate change and possibility, whilst challenging notions about preciousness
and value. She works by deconstructing, reforming and hand-dying discarded
plastics, metals, paper, glass and textiles, including plastic bags, bottles
and drinks cans, often combining them with vintage beads, jewels and found
objects.</span><br />

is based in Lancashire. She
graduated from Reading University with a BA (Hons) in Typography and Graphics
and went on to gain an MA in Educational Research (Lancaster), a BSc in
Psychology and professional qualifications in psychotherapy and education.</span></span></h1>
<h1 style="font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;">
<span style="font-size: small;"><span style="font-weight: normal;">Ann
worked at Marvel Magazines in London before becoming freelance, designing
publicity and promotional materials for the arts and entertainment industry
both here and abroad. For a while she lived in the Netherlands where her eldest
daughter was born.</span></span></h1>

<span style="font-size: small;"><span style="font-weight: normal;">Ann
has always delighted in using everyday materials in unexpected ways and in 2008
was added to the Index of Selected makers at the UK Crafts Council. Her
jewellery won a Green Apple Award in 2009 and First Place at the 2010 British
Bead Awards in the Beyond Beads category. Her work, both 2d and 3d, has been
used in advertising, education, publishing, exhibitions and for corporate

The communal areas of the incubator has been transformed into an art fair for under £50 shopping from local artists and craftspeople, opening on Monday 11.30 to 2.30pm but will be on until after Christmas with work once bought and paid for, can be taken away and hidden away for Christmas morning.<br />

based fine artist and printmaker Freida McKitrick’s work reflects the
time-honoured practice of taking common, ordinary images and objects and
placing them in an artistic context, but with a little twist: She selects
images or things that are or were at home in ordinary human life but have some

is based on observations of life using a variety of subjects to record events,
situations and ideas that have inspired her, or given cause for amusement.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>Freida works from a studio in a
renovated mill in the heart of Liverpool city centre, she draws her inspiration
from the eclectic mix of architecture, people, and culture that radiates from
Liverpool and other cities that she has been fortunate to have visited.</span></div>

woodcut and etching) exhibiting locally and nationally. In 2006 she read for an
MA in Fine Art (Print) at Chester University and took part, in 2007, in an
exhibition at the Bluecoat Display Centre commemorating 200 years of
slavery.Gill completed a series of etchings recording the crossing of the
Atlantic on a container ship (May 2009) from Liverpool to New York.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>Her recent print projects have been
exploring the life and work of Merce Cunningham, contemporary dancer and
choreographer and capturing the landscapes of Hilbre Island and Les Alpilles,

is a painter and decorator by trade. He discovered photography enhancement
quite by accident, when in 2007 he started playing around with a computer
programme which changed the colours and appearance of photographs. He really
liked the eye catching effect and started manipulating my favourite

inspired by a love of iconic buildings and the ever changing Liverpool

are miniature in scale, usually still lives, landscapes or imaginative
subjects, sometimes inspired by poetry.</span></div>

Waldman is a jewellery designer and silversmith based in the Wirral. Lisa has
been designing and making her collection for over 10 years. She has a new
selection of ‘ready to wear' contemporary pieces in silver anything from simple
flower earrings and silver gem stone rings to gorgeous vintage pearl necklaces
and the stunning butterfly range.</span></div>

Cadwallader was born and brought up in Java studying civil engineering at Leeds
University. She worked on building a university campus, bringing infrastructure
to the jungles of Sulawesi and designing irrigation system for Lombok and
Sumbawa. After taking a master degree in Irrigation Engineering at Southampton,
she practised as an engineer in Jakarta and Sumatra. She then settled in Oxton.
She continued working as a water engineer in the North West for a few years.
She then studied fine art and jewellery design at the Wirral Met. Theresia’s
work combines a strong feeling for earth and stones, often geometric with

<span style="font-family: Arial;">Patterns
on the land and the structure of towns and roads have always fascinated Mary,
from her early days of studying geography. She is interested in them not only
for their visual impact, but also in the effects that human occupation,
development and activities have on the landscape. She has been collecting
antique maps for years and recently have also been influenced by the aerial
photographs.She began formal art training in her late forties with an A level
in Art Textiles followed by City and Guilds Creative textiles. Her work usually
includes techniques of appliqué, print, hand-dyed fabrics and machine
embroidery, resulting in a combination of line, colour and texture to interpret
my ideas.</span></div>

Howard was one of the Royal College of Art’s first six embroidery postgraduates
in 1992.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>Since then she has
practiced as a textile artist and designer exhibiting nationally and
internationally and she has undertaken a wide variety of commissions and
projects including being shortlisted for the prestigious Jerwood Prize for
Applied Arts (1997).<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>Howard has a
fascination with everyday life; she likes to sketch people – their postures,
expressions and movements.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>These
spontaneous sketches, notes and scribbles are then translated into
screen-printed, appliquéd and embroidered narrative images.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>They embellish her large wall-hangings,
small framed works and range of fashion and interior accessories.</span></div>

England in 1992. In 2008 she graduated from John Moores University, Liverpool

It is getting exciting as we are taking delivery of the art and craftwork for the Christmas exhibition at MerseyBio. All the work is under £50 making the pruchasing of art affordable for many. We will have photographs by Roger Sinek, wood from <a href="http://incubatingart.blogspot.com/2011/05/landscape-opened-on-13th-of-april.html">Mike Rule </a>who exhibited with us in the Landscape show earlier this year, jewellery from Lisa Waldman of LW Silver and also from Theresia Cadwallader who showed her beadwork in the 2010 Christmas show, topographical embroideries from <a href="http://oxtonguestartists2011.weebly.com/mary-bryning.html">Mary Bryning</a>, new prints from <a href="http://oxtonguestartists2011.weebly.com/freida-mckitrick.html">Freida McKitrick</a> with her scenes of Liverpool that were so popular last year and were the Christmas card for 2Bio in 2009....and so much more...<br />

"My art practice is based in print, installation work and bookmaking. I usually work with paper, making books from it, printing on it, constructing with it, and recycling old paper to make new. <br /><br />My work is generally based upon repetition and I focus my ideas on patterns and shapes found within the human body. I'm interested in human life, who we are, physically and emotionally, from how the body is structured to our characteristics and qualities. My obsessive nature compels me to work in multiples and I use it to illustrate how the body repeats functions in order to repair renew and survive, often mimicking life, growth and regeneration.
