Join local wildlife artist Anthony Smith who will show you how to draw some of your favourite animals. This event is most suitable for children aged 4 – 11 but all are welcome.

Birds of a Feather Blogged on Art In Liverpool

We had the pleasure of the company of Ian and Minako Jackson at the opening of Birds of a Feather and they have followed it up on their blog.

You may notice a change on the walls, we have sold one of Anthony's paintings and wanted to let it go to it's new home straight away.

The new label for the new piece Anthony delivered to replace the piece will go up soon but here are the details of his watercolour.

'Chough at South Stack' - £200

'I visited South Stack in order to see the nesting Peregrine Falcons but
soon became preoccupied with the Chough that was walking around behind us.
It followed us around for much of the afternoon with occasional flights
around the cliffs. Choughs are a member of the Crow family and were until
recently a very rare bird in the British Isles. Their most characteristic
feature is their bright red bill which is slightly down-curved'

Exhibition runs from 17th of July until 26th of August (sadly as this is a secure building the exhibition is closed to the public - please look at the artists websites for more details of where their work can be seen in the public domain)

Anthony Smith is a very accomplished professional artist specialising in wildlife and bird paintings. He is currently the working artist for Chester Zoo and exhibits regularly at the ‘Society of Wildlife Artists’ at the Mall Galleries, London and at the National Exhibition of Wildlife Art.

Joel Phelan or Joel Bird is a prolific young artist/musician/sculptor who will be showing his expressive studies of birds - paintings and sculptures. His paintings of birds have realistic qualities but are stylised to reflect the personality of the birds and the environment they live in. Originally from Liverpool, Joel has recently moved to London. His artwork is shown extensively in Britain and USA, with a show planned for Philadelphia in March 2010.
